Chirpy

Entomophagy Food System Design with Goldsmiths University of London

A Future-Forward Food System Rooted in Tradition

Chirpy explores how India can address future food insecurity by drawing from its own overlooked food traditions. The project investigates the potential of entomophagy—eating insects—as a sustainable, high-protein alternative in a country facing climate-driven agricultural challenges. Despite its cultural roots, insect consumption remains marginal and stigmatised.

Context

Through research into India’s agricultural systems, traditional entomophagy practices, and behavioural attitudes, the project proposes a service and brand that reframes insect-based diets for mainstream acceptance.

Chirpy combines AI-driven agri-tech with regional culinary knowledge to support insect farming, reduce neophobia, and introduce edible insects into meat-centric food cultures—starting with Tamil Nadu.Blending speculative design with systemic thinking, Chirpy imagines a culturally relevant, ecologically resilient food future for India.
